After floods, 33 Rasuwa students cross Trishuli on a cable pulley to reach school

Thirty-three students of Neelkantha Secondary School in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, are risking their lives daily to reach school after floods on the Bhotekoshi river.

Coming from Shantibazar and Pairebesi, the students endure crossing rivers, hanging off the back of vehicles, and riding a tuin (cable pulley) every day. After leaving home, they first cross the Salakhu stream and walk for about an hour. They then hang onto the back of a vehicle to reach the colony on the bank of the Trishuli river.

From there, they use the tuin to cross the surging Trishuli river to reach Dhunge Bazar. From Dhunge Bazar, they take a microbus to Angtar, then walk uphill for about half an hour through Sihale village to reach Betrawati. Only after crossing a makeshift bridge at Betrawati can they head to school.

According to school teacher Ranjana Thapa, the students' daily routine changed in this way after floods hit the Bhotekoshi.
