Foreign minister Khanal returns from UN General Assembly, PM's India visit date still undecided

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal said the date for Prime Minister Balendra Shah's visit to India has not yet been finalized.

Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning home this morning from the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Khanal said India had sent a formal invitation to the prime minister as soon as the new government was formed, and Nepal has taken it positively. He said talks between the two sides on the visit have been positive, and preparations are underway for a results-oriented visit at an appropriate time.

Minister Khanal had left for New York on Asoj 4 to attend the General Assembly. On the sidelines of the assembly, he organized a high-level special climate-focused event on behalf of Nepal titled 'From Sagarmatha to the Sea.' He also participated in the General Assembly and various other high-level events held on the occasion.

During the visit, he took part in bilateral meetings and held discussions with counterparts from various countries on matters of mutual interest. Khanal claimed the 81st General Assembly had been highly fruitful in promoting Nepal's interests. According to him, in his meetings with heads of state and government, he raised Nepal's national interests as well as post-flood disaster management on the global stage.
