The National Coordination Council of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRN) in Portugal will open its service office in the capital, Lisbon, from October 4.

According to Portugal's National Statistics Institute, the number of Nepalis living in the country has crossed 56,000 as of 2025. Nepalis now form the fifth-largest group of foreign immigrants, after citizens of Brazil, Angola, India and Cape Verde, followed by Bangladesh, Guinea-Bissau and Ukraine.

Per the institute's data, there are about 38,000 Nepali men and nearly 18,500 Nepali women in the country. The Nepali population, which stood at around 24,000 in 2021, has grown by nearly 137 percent in four years, with about 33,000 Nepalis added during this period.

Nepalis who have already obtained Portuguese citizenship are not included in this count. Diplomatic relations between Nepal and Portugal have also been expanding.
