Around 12,500 chyangra (mountain goats) are set to be sent to market from the high-Himalayan district of Mustang this year for Dasain.

According to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Centre in Mustang, this many chyangra are ready for sale among those raised across the district's five rural municipalities.

Centre chief Dr Lalmani Aryal said traders had already brought down around 9,500 chyangra from Mustang toward the market by Wednesday. He said there has been no problem so far in transporting the chyangra to market for Dasain.

Last year, around 15,000 chyangra reached the market from Mustang during Dasain. Traders have reduced the supply this time, anticipating a drop in meat consumption following the disaster caused by the Bhotekoshi flood.

According to Chief Aryal, the price of a chyangra in Mustang itself has been set at Rs 50,000 this year.
