Janamat Party postpones general convention to Asoj 17 due to bad weather

Janamat Party's second general convention has been rescheduled to Saturday, Asoj 17, in Birgunj due to adverse weather. The convention was earlier scheduled for Asoj 9 and 10 at the Birgunj Town Hall.

Party spokesperson Chandan Singh said the date was changed in view of the continuous rain over the past few days and forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days. He said the schedule was changed because bad weather could create problems with travel and arrangements for representatives, leaders and well-wishers arriving from various parts of the country.

The party's statement said that although preparations had been completed, priority was given to the safety and smooth travel of participants. Under the earlier schedule, the process of filing candidacies for various central posts, including party chair, had already begun. According to the revised schedule, the party said the convention will now be held on Asoj 17.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely today in a few places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim. Very heavy rainfall is possible in one or two places in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. Windstorms are also possible in a few places in Madhesh province and the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini.

The department said there is a 60 percent chance of rain in Kathmandu, Biratnagar and Janakpur. It added that the strong low-pressure system currently over northern Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in India is likely to gradually weaken over the next 24 hours.
