Leadership must be chosen through competition if consensus fails: Arjun Narsingh KC

Nepali Congress leader and House of Representatives member Arjun Narsingh KC has said that if full consensus cannot be reached at the general convention, leadership should be chosen through fair competition. In a statement released ahead of the convention starting Asoj 16, he said he has been continuously working toward party unity, harmony and consensus.

He said that if there is no possibility of hundred percent consensus and unity, a healthy and fair democratic competition should be accepted gladly. The convention is not merely a routine organizational process but an important opportunity for the party, democracy and the nation's future, he said.

KC described Congress as a democratic movement that has linked innovation and continuity at various turning points in Nepali history. He said the experience, sacrifice and guidance of the older generation must be combined with the energy, courage and innovation of the new generation.

He argued that the main need is to seriously understand the changing social and political environment and current challenges. KC urged party members to rise above personal limitations, biases and differences and focus on the party's broader interest, stressing that the convention must give the party a new direction.
