Nepal and Rwanda sign general cooperation agreement

Nepal and the African nation of Rwanda have signed a general cooperation agreement aimed at expanding relations between the two countries. The agreement was signed at a sideline event of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly currently underway in New York, United States.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal signed the agreement on behalf of Nepal, while Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, signed on behalf of his country. The agreement, titled the "General Cooperation Agreement" in English, is expected to lay the groundwork for expanding cooperation between the two countries in various areas of mutual interest.

With the agreement, both countries have gained an opportunity to identify new areas of cooperation and further institutionalize Nepal-Rwanda relations. The two countries formally established diplomatic relations in 2018. Since then, Nepal and Rwanda have been cooperating with each other at multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
