Floods and landslides damage schools in Baglung, disrupting studies for 1,297 children

Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain from Asoj 8 to 11 have damaged schools in four local levels of Baglung, disrupting the studies of 1,297 children.
Floods in Nisikhola Rural Municipality and Badigad, and landslides in Tamankhola and Tarakhola rural municipalities, have affected schools.
According to Yuvaraj Sharma, assistant education officer in Tarakhola, the worst affected are five schools there, where 845 students are impacted.
Landslides destroyed the physical structures of three schools in ward 5 and two schools in ward 4. The science laboratory of Durgabhawani Secondary School in Tarakhola-5 was completely buried by a landslide.
Some schools have found alternative sites and started classes, but many students are still not in a position to attend school.
The floods and landslides have also damaged students' homes, learning materials and the roads leading to schools.
Some children remain afraid that rivers could rise again and landslides could occur.
