Heavy rain in western provinces today, tomorrow; very heavy possible in Lumbini, Sudurpashchim

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, very heavy rain is possible at one or two places in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces today. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at limited locations in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim today.

Tomorrow, similarly heavy rain is forecast for Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim, while heavy rain may occur at one or two places in Koshi and Bagmati. The department said moderate rain or snowfall with lightning is likely in most places in the mountainous areas of the four western provinces.

Windstorms may occur in some parts of Madhesh and the Tarai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini. A partial effect of westerly winds is currently being felt across the country along with the monsoon airflow.

A strong low-pressure system over northern Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in India is moving north-northwest and is expected to weaken within 24 hours. There is a 90 percent chance of heavy rain with lightning in Birendranagar, Nepalgunj and Pokhara.

Pokhara's temperature is expected to range from 19 to 21 degrees Celsius, Nepalgunj's from 21 to 23, and Birendranagar's from 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. There is a 60 percent chance of moderate rain in Kathmandu, Biratnagar and Janakpur.

Kathmandu's temperature is expected to be 16 to 18 degrees Celsius, Biratnagar's 22 to 24, and Janakpur's 21 to 23 degrees Celsius, the department said.
