The government is preparing to allow security agencies, including the army and police, to sell and distribute cooking LPG gas as well.

Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ministry Secretary Rudra Singh Tamang shared this information on Friday at a meeting of the National Assembly's Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee.

The Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force currently sell petroleum products. According to Secretary Tamang, if security agencies that sell petrol also have one or two gas outlets, it would make it easier for the state to manage supply during emergencies.

He said necessary arrangements are being made in view of a possible gas shortage.

At the same meeting, Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Deepak Kumar Sah claimed that gas supply is gradually becoming easier. According to Minister Sah, double the manpower and machinery have been deployed to clear the Krishnabhir landslide, the main obstacle to supply.

He said the ministry has identified problems at every stage from LPG loading, transport and storage to refilling and reaching consumers. He added that the government is preparing a three-tier short, medium and long-term energy security plan for a permanent solution to the gas shortage.
