Flood damages Rahughat hydropower project days after it began generation

Floods have damaged the 40-megawatt Rahughat hydropower project in Myagdi, which had recently started generation.

The Nepal Electricity Authority said structures of the project, located in Raghuganga Rural Municipality, along with transmission line towers, were damaged by flooding in the Raghuganga River.

According to the project, the floods swept away the tailrace gate. Electricity produced by the two 20-megawatt units had been connected to the national transmission system only a few days earlier.

The authority said the damage could affect trial production and preparations for commercial operation. A technical team has been deployed to assess the damage and carry out restoration work.

The project was built by Raghuganga Hydropower Limited, a subsidiary of the authority.
