Congress Deuwa faction holds ward conventions in 3,191 wards; EC archives its letter

The Sher Bahadur Deuwa faction of Nepali Congress completed ward-level conventions in nearly 3,200 wards across the country on Thursday, as part of the party's 15th general convention process.
According to a statement issued by Egraj Pokharel, coordinator of the faction's central election committee, conventions were held on the very first day in nearly half of the party's roughly 6,700 wards.
The committee said the highest number of ward conventions were completed in Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces. It said conventions in the remaining wards will be held according to schedule by Asoj 18.
Conventions could not be held in Rasuwa due to floods and landslides, while a postponed ward convention in Baglung will now be held on Asoj 16.
The Deuwa faction has scheduled a parallel central general convention in Kathmandu from Mangsir 21 to 23. The Deuwa faction had not participated in the ward conventions held by the establishment faction, led by Gagan Thapa, on Asoj 3 and 4.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has archived the letter regarding the general convention that the Deuwa faction sent on Wednesday along with its schedule. Chief Election Commissioner Man Bahadur Karki ordered that the letter be placed on record.
In the letter, Deuwa described himself as the president of Nepali Congress. The letter was recorded as part of the routine administrative process of registering parties' correspondence regarding their activities.
