Nepal to import 1,154 MW of electricity from India this winter to prevent load-shedding

The Nepal Electricity Authority is preparing to increase electricity imports from India to prevent load-shedding during the dry season. The authority said it will import 1,154 megawatts of electricity from January through May.

Authority Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha shared information about the state of electricity demand and supply. The authority estimates that around 1,218 megawatts will be available from domestic production during the coming dry season.

The authority is preparing to import electricity from India after floods and landslides damaged hydropower projects operating in the Trishuli and Kali Gandaki corridors.

The authority said the imports are being arranged to ease supply in case domestic production cannot meet winter demand.
