Process begins to list Janaki Mandir on UNESCO World Heritage list

A formal process has begun to include the historic and religious pilgrimage site of Janaki Mandir in Janakpurdham, Dhanusha, on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list.
Stakeholders launched the initiative for its global recognition and protection soon after the Nepal government declared the temple area a protected monument zone.
A special committee has been formed for this purpose under the coordination of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah. The committee will prepare a detailed report covering the temple's religious, cultural and architectural significance.
Stakeholders have agreed to preserve the temple's old form while systematically managing future physical development work.
