Community forests in Tanahun have produced 3,334 cubic feet of timber through the scientific forest management program.

Division Forest Office chief Manoj Ranabhat said sal, katus and chilaune trees, among others, were felled, yielding both timber and firewood. He said trees are removed based on the forest's condition, age, density and management plan, with the aim of preserving regeneration and productivity.

Sandhebagar Community Forest in Devghat Rural Municipality-5 produced the most, with 1,700 cubic feet of sal timber and 3 chatta of firewood, more than half of the total output.

Tunibhanjyang Community Forest in Myagde-1 yielded 535 cubic feet, and Thanimai Community Forest in Bhanu Municipality-7 yielded 431.26 cubic feet. Gumlek in Rishing-4 produced 200 cubic feet, Neelkantha in Ghiring-1 produced 150, and Dhorbarahi in Shuklagandaki-9 produced 130 cubic feet.

The office said Baghbhanjyang in Byas Municipality yielded 118 cubic feet and Chapeli in Bandipur-1 yielded 70 cubic feet.

The office said the goal is to make forest management sustainable by removing diseased trees and boosting the growth of new saplings. Ranabhat said the timber and firewood produced would be used for local consumers' needs as per law.
