Asian Games: All four Nepali judokas eliminated in first round

At the judo competition of the 20th Asian Games underway in Nagoya, Japan, four Nepali athletes were defeated in their very first bouts on Wednesday. Bishesh Bik, Bikas Bik, Devkimaya Shrestha and Nisha Shrestha were all eliminated in contests held at the Aichi International Arena.

In the men's under-60kg category, Bikas lost to Uzbekistan's Samariddin Kuchkarov via ippon within just 48 seconds. Kuchkarov is a gold medalist at the Asian Junior World Championships. Both Bikas and Kuchkarov had received byes in the previous round.

In the women's 48kg category, Nisha Shrestha lost to Hong Kong's Yeung Ka Lee via ippon in 2 minutes 32 seconds. In the women's 52kg category, experienced athlete Devkimaya Shrestha lost to Vietnam's Lam Thi Ngan Ha on yuko. Both athletes had already received a shido (yellow card) when their opponent scored a yuko with 20 seconds left in the bout.

In the men's 66kg category, Bishesh Bik fought the full 4 minutes against Hong Kong's Wong Ka Kei before losing on waza-ari.

Nepal will next field Punam Shrestha in the women's under-70kg category and Sujan Gurung in the men's under-90kg category. Nepal is also scheduled to compete in the mixed team judo event.
