Mustang communication service restored, Myagdi transmission line repair begins

Communication service in Mustang, which had been disrupted by floods and erosion from the Kaligandaki river, resumed from Thursday afternoon. The communication link between northern Myagdi and Mustang had been cut after the river swept away structures, including fiber-laid poles.
Milan Raj Ranjit, chief of Nepal Telecom's Baglung office, said a technical team had repaired the damage and restored the service. He said further damaged locations would be identified and fixed as well.
Power supply in the district, however, remains cut off, said Chief District Officer Ajita Sharma. Flooding in the Kaligandaki following rainfall from Asoj 8 to 11 had toppled four towers of the 220 kV Dana-Khurkot transmission line at Pokhrebagar, Dhirchyang and Dowa in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi.
With the line severed, power supply to Mustang and Annapurna Rural Municipality has come to a standstill. About 176 megawatts of electricity from six hydropower projects in Myagdi and Mustang cannot be connected to the central system, causing losses of tens of millions of rupees. Repair work on the transmission line has begun to restore the power supply.
