Martadi-Kolti road reopens after three months, easing apple transport

Bajura's Martadi-Kolti road has resumed operation after being closed for three months.
The road had been obstructed since the second week of Asar, when the rains began. While it was closed, farmers in upper areas including Pandusain had to carry apples on their backs to reach markets. Some farmers had to transport their apples all the way to Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi via the Karnali corridor. Some farmers from Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality managed to get their apples as far as Dhangadhi.
Now, apples from the eastern and northern parts of the district are being brought directly by vehicle from the orchards to the district headquarters, Martadi. Apple farmer Ujjwal Rawat said transport has become easier and time is saved now that the road has reopened.
