The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has stressed the need to increase private sector investment and innovation to reduce climate risks and promote climate-resilient economic growth.

Speakers at a session titled "Private Sector for Climate Justice," organised by the federation on Saturday in Kathmandu under "Kathmandu Climate Week 2026," expressed these views. Domestic and foreign policymakers, entrepreneurs, experts and activists are taking part in Climate Week, which runs from October 2 to 5.

Shiva Prasad Ghimire, chair of the federation's agriculture committee, said the private sector is ready to work with the government, academic institutions and international development partners on climate action. He said the federation's network, spread across all seven provinces and all districts, could be mobilised for disaster management, protection of micro and small enterprises, and the creation of green jobs.

Ghimire said that although Nepal's share of greenhouse gas emissions is small, the country is facing severe climate impacts. He cited the recent flooding in the Bhotekoshi–Trishuli corridor as an example.

He said the federation is providing technical support to the private sector to increase energy efficiency and implement environmental, social and governance standards.

In the first session, participants said that while solar energy and electric transport in cities have attracted investment, off-grid electrification and local climate solutions are struggling to raise capital. They suggested adopting blended finance models and risk-sharing frameworks.
