Congress faction vows unity as rival camp plans district conventions by Kattik 15

Nepali Congress's newly elected joint general secretary, Ajaya Babu Shiwakoti, has said the party will correct past weaknesses and move forward strong and united.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by Reporters' Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday, he said the 15th General Convention had re-endorsed Gagan Thapa's leadership.
According to Shiwakoti, Congress has chosen the path of a constructive opposition that continuously monitors the government's work, instead of street protests. He said the party plans to focus on local and provincial elections and reach out to the public, and that a six-month door-to-door campaign has been decided to ensure the government fulfills its promises.
Meanwhile, the dissident faction of Congress has prepared to complete conventions in all districts by Kattik 15. That faction has already announced it will hold a separate 15th General Convention from Mangsir 21 to 23.
According to Egraj Pokharel, coordinator of the dissident faction's central election committee, conventions have been completed in about 480 municipalities and more than 6,000 wards, and in roughly 21 districts, in the process that began on Asoj 15. The establishment faction, for its part, has already selected a nearly 300-member central working committee.
