Electricity Authority to sell 86 MW to India during the monsoon

Nepal Electricity Authority will sell 86 MW of electricity to India during the monsoon season.
Surplus power left over after supplying domestic customers will be sold in the Indian market through India's Power Exchange. According to Authority board member Anshukiran Shahi, India's Tata Power Trading Company Limited will serve as the intermediary for the deal.
The board, at its meeting on Asar 25, had decided to seek the Electricity Regulatory Commission's consultation on the draft purchase-sale agreement before resubmitting it. The Commission met on Bhadau 2 and decided to give its consent; the Authority received that information on Bhadau 8.
After the Commission's consent, Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha proposed a sales period from November 1, 2026 to May 31. On Asoj 3, the Authority decided to sell the power and approved the draft agreement. Energy Minister Shrestha has authorized the Executive Director to sign the agreement.
