Bhotekoshi floods knock 430MW off power grid, government prepares alternative arrangements

About 430 megawatts of electricity have been knocked off the national transmission system after a devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River damaged several hydropower projects.

The flood has cut off the power supply that reaches Balaju and Chapali in Kathmandu via the Trishuli corridor. Following this, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has moved ahead with groundwork for alternative arrangements.

The government is particularly focused on managing Kathmandu's winter electricity demand. The ministry is preparing to find an alternative for the power lost from the transmission system.
