The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has urged the public not to fly kites, drones or balloons near Tribhuvan International Airport.

In a notice issued on Sunday, Asoj 18, the authority's Tribhuvan Airport office said such objects could pose a serious threat to flight safety. The office said kite-flying has increased since Dashain began.

According to the office, kites, their strings or threads, balloons and drones entering the areas where aircraft take off and land disrupt the safe operation of aircraft. Such activities are prohibited by law in the area around the airport.

The office said the public has been informed of this repeatedly in the past. However, it expressed concern that such activities have not stopped despite the warnings.

The notice states that aviation safety is a shared responsibility not only of the airport and other agencies but of every citizen.
