20 road sections fully blocked, Kathmandu Valley nearly cut off

Continuous rainfall and landslides have completely blocked 20 road sections across the country.

According to the Home Ministry's Disaster Response Section, as of 8 pm Friday, roads in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini were closed, with the highest number — 12 — in Bagmati. Two roads had one-way movement.

With major routes including the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway and Kanti Lokpath blocked, Kathmandu Valley has been almost cut off from the rest of the country. Among the roads leading into the valley, only the Tribhuvan Rajpath remains operational.

According to the Department of Roads, traffic is fully halted at Krishnabhir, Choukibhir, Jawangkhola and Fisling on the Prithvi Highway. Local bodies reported around eight locations blocked along the same highway in Dhading as of 8:30 pm Friday.

The BP Highway is also completely blocked at Mamti, Piple, Charsayabesi and Choukidanda. The Narayangadh-Mugling road, Siddhicharan Lokmarg and the Chame-Besisahar section are also closed.

In Koshi, four roads including the Mechi Corridor and Madhyapahadi Lokmarg are blocked. Meanwhile, a police team of 15 members cleared a landslide at Ghasikuwa in Tanahun, reopening the Prithvi Highway there.
