Madhesh needs world-class schools: Education Minister Pokharel

Education and Sports Minister Sashmit Pokharel has outlined a plan to set up at least 100 world-class schools in Madhesh Province.
He made the announcement at a high-level dialogue programme organised by the Ministry of Education and Sports in Simara, Bara. He said well-equipped schools like Kathmandu's historic Darbar High School are needed to transform the education sector in Madhesh, and he placed special emphasis on the Darbar High School concept while presenting Madhesh-focused education reform plans.
The minister said the government plans to open model schools with quality infrastructure in Madhesh. According to Pokharel, Prime Minister suggested opening world-class schools in Madhesh, and the two have consulted on the matter.
The proposed schools will cover education up to the secondary level. He said the work could be carried out in different formats, such as converting existing schools into these institutions or running them after relocating to another site.
