Former Chief Justice Jabra's family seeks security; police give differing accounts on letter

Former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Jabra has asked police to arrange necessary security, saying threats to his and his family's lives have increased. His son, Sachindra Shumsher Jabra, submitted an application at the Kathmandu Valley Police Office in Ranipokhari, urging greater attention to the family's security.

The letter seeking security has since become public on social media.

Police have given differing statements about the letter. Initially, SSP Somendra Singh Rathore of the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, said no such application had been received. Later, DIG Govinda Thapaliya of the same office said a letter seeking security had indeed been received.

Former Chief Justice Jabra had been released by police on Saturday, about 12 hours after being arrested at midnight.
