Birgunj directs schools to make Saturday and Sunday mandatory holidays

Birgunj Metropolitan City has directed all community and institutional schools within the metropolis to observe mandatory public holidays on Saturdays and Sundays every week. The metropolis took this step after complaints that some institutional, i.e. private, schools in Birgunj were holding regular classes even on Sundays.

The Ministry of Education and Sports had requested local levels to implement a two-day weekly holiday at educational institutions, based on a ministerial-level decision.

After learning that some schools continued classes on Sundays even after the ministry's request, the two-day mandatory holiday directive was issued, said Anand Lamichhane, chief of the metropolis's Educational Administration Division.

The Educational Administration Division issued the circular based on a decision made by the City Education Committee on Asoj 5. Through the circular, all schools have been instructed to follow the same rule in their operations.
