Rain stops, life in Kathmandu Valley returning to normal

After two days of continuous rain stopped from Saturday morning, life in Kathmandu Valley has started returning to normal. Heavy rainfall across most parts of the country on Thursday and Friday had slowed road traffic, daily work and business in the valley. Sunshine appeared in various parts of the valley on Saturday morning.

According to meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane of the Weather Forecasting Division, rainfall in the eastern region has been decreasing since Friday night. He said Kathmandu could see rain again this evening or night, but there is no possibility of heavy rainfall. The division said there is a 60 percent chance of rain in Kathmandu today, with temperatures ranging from 19 to 21 degrees Celsius.

A low-pressure system over northern Chhattisgarh and northeastern Madhya Pradesh in India is moving toward southeastern Uttar Pradesh and is likely to weaken over the next 12 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely today at a few places in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. The division said there is a 100 percent chance of rain in Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Birendranagar.

Extremely heavy rainfall is forecast at one or two places in Lumbini and Sudurpashchim tomorrow. The division said scattered rain could still occur in some places. Citing the fact that the soil has loosened and river flows may change because of the two days of rain, the division has urged local residents to remain especially alert.
