BP Highway reopens after four days for small vehicles; Krishnabhir two-way, Kanti Lokpath one-way

BP Highway, blocked for four days by floods and landslides following continuous rain, reopened on Tuesday, with only small vehicles allowed to travel for now.

Floodwaters from the Roshi River had swept away temporary diversions at Chaukidanda, Katunje, Piple and Mamti, while landslides had struck the Daunne-Kalopul and Charsaybesi sections. Work to clear the landslides and build diversions began Monday morning.

According to Suman Yogesh, chief of the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, vehicles are being routed through an inner track past the drinking-water pump house at Chaukidanda because the river's flow is high there. He said a new diversion would be built along the riverbank once the flow decreases.

The office said buses, minibuses and six-wheeler cargo trucks would have to wait a few more hours before they could run, and one-way traffic is currently in place at risk-prone locations.

Meanwhile, the Krishnabhir section of Prithvi Highway has reopened for two-way traffic. With the road open, LP gas bullets and cargo vehicles carrying daily essentials, which had been stranded, have started entering Kathmandu.

Kanti Lokpath, the short route connecting Kathmandu and Hetauda that was blocked by landslides caused by heavy rain from Asoj 8 to 11, has also reopened one-way from today. Authorities have urged travelers to remain cautious as some sections of the road remain risky due to the rain.
