Floods and landslides displace 200 families in Myagdi, erosion continues at Tilkeni

In Myagdi, 200 families have been displaced by continuous rain from Asoj 8 to 11 and the subsequent floods and landslides.

According to Chief District Officer Ganesh Gairhe, the collection of damage details has been delayed because roads, communication and electricity links connecting the district headquarters, Beni, to the villages have been cut off. He said security agencies and personnel have been deployed to all local levels to gather the details. Nepal Army helicopters have been mobilized for rescue and relief in areas where road access is cut off.

At Tilkenichaur in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-3, the Kaligandaki river has been eroding the bank since Sunday morning, and the water has now reached right up to a house's courtyard.

Local resident Gam Bahadur Century has taken his household belongings out and piled them on the road. The river has washed away more than one ropani of his land and kitchen garden beside the road. He has not yet been able to decide where to take his family.

Tilkenichaur, home to eight households, used to be regarded as something of a trading hub on the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road along the Kaligandaki corridor.
