Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Birajbhakta Shrestha departed for Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday afternoon.

He will attend the Fifth Ministerial Conference organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).

Minister Shrestha is scheduled to address the conference, which focuses on the use of space technology for sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region, on Wednesday.

On Thursday, he will also address a workshop jointly organized by Thailand, Nepal, and UN ESCAP titled 'From Sagarmatha to the Sea,' which will discuss lessons Nepal has learned on preventing cascading disasters from the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli incident.

According to the minister's chief personal secretary, Sanjeev Maharjan, separate bilateral meetings with ministers from various countries have also been scheduled during the conference.

During these meetings and the conference, Minister Shrestha will raise the issues of disaster early warning systems, free use of regional satellites, and climate compensation.
