Syangja farmer earns Rs 1.1 million a year from banana farming

Premnarayan Pangeni, a farmer from Chapakot-10, Andhighat in Syangja, has been earning Rs 1.1 million a year through commercial banana farming.
He started by planting 100 saplings on one ropani of land and has now expanded to 6,100 saplings across 61 ropanis. Of this, 13 ropanis are his own land, while the rest has been taken on rent or mortgage from others.
The farming, which began after he judged that bananas would grow well on land along the banks of the Kaligandaki River, has now flourished. After banana farming began bringing good returns, he also planted bananas on land where paddy and maize used to be grown.
He initially planted the local Malbhog and G-9 varieties, but now grows only Malbhog. According to him, banana farming is easier than other crops and demand in the market is high.
Pangeni said that although he has ventured into many businesses, banana farming has given him the greatest satisfaction.
