Blasting attempt to clear landslide-blocked Marsyangdi fails, excavators dig river instead

The administration's attempt to blast open the flow of the Marsyangdi River, blocked by a landslide at the Manang district headquarters of Chame, has so far failed despite preparations to do so.

According to Assistant Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Paudel, the technical team for the blasting operation reached Chame on Monday itself. "The technical team arrived in Chame just yesterday. The problem is that a suitable spot for blasting has not been found," he said.

After difficulties in carrying out the blast, two dozers have been deployed to clear the blocked river. The administration said these machines are now being used to dig out the river.

The flow of the Marsyangdi River in Chame was blocked by a landslide triggered by days of continuous rainfall.
