Bhim Rawal criticizes Finance Minister Wagle over remarks made in India

Debate has broken out in political circles, both for and against, over remarks on nationalism made by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle in India.
Speaking at NDTV's "World Summit 2026" program in India on Asoj 6, Minister Wagle had said that the era of nationalism linked to anti-India sentiment in Nepal was over.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Bhim Rawal strongly objected to the remark on Facebook, accusing the RSP-led government and the finance minister of "surrenderism and subservience."
Rawal said Nepali nationalism is not based on opposition to any country but on protecting sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. He cited Articles 5, 51 and 279 of the constitution to support his argument.
Rawal also accused the RSP government's activities of running counter to national interest.
Some former foreign ministers and analysts have criticized the minister for speaking on a matter of national concern on foreign soil, while others have backed his remarks.
Former ambassadors Bijay Kant Karna and Arun Subedi said that although the minister's remarks were correct, anti-India sentiment in Nepal has not fully disappeared.
