Bagmati Province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar has said that implementing the federal system of governance is difficult as long as police adjustment remains unresolved.

He expressed this view at a ceremony organised by the Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda on Friday to mark the 71st Police Day.

He said adjustment is necessary to exercise the authority and responsibilities the constitution has given to the provinces.

He said the provincial government faces practical difficulty in managing peace, security and police administration because the process has not been completed.

He urged the federal government and all three tiers of government to settle the adjustment quickly.

His view is that an environment is needed in which provinces can play an effective role in police mobilisation, human resource management and service delivery.

Chief Minister Thapa Magar directed that an environment be created in which citizens feel the police are their protectors.

He said the relationship between police and citizens must rest on trust, cooperation and mutual respect.

He stressed that police service must be impartial, transparent, sensitive and citizen-friendly.

His view is that the provincial government is committed to making Nepal Police a professional, publicly accountable, disciplined and technology-friendly organisation.

He said the police must be provided resources, technology and training for peace and security, disaster mitigation, rescue and relief.
