Major flood in Budhigandaki sweeps away Sallery market, damages Jagat market

A major flood occurred in Gorkha's Budhigandaki river this morning. According to Chief District Officer Dharendra Kumar Mishra, news of the major flood was received at 4:35 am. No information on human casualties from the flood has been received yet.
It is suspected that the flood occurred after a dry landslide at Chekampar in Chumnubri rural municipality blocked the river. According to some media reports, the flood occurred after the Ugyulung stream in Chumnubri-6 was blocked, increasing the flow of the Budhigandaki.
According to local resident Bishal Ghale, the flood, carrying mud and debris, has swept away Sallery market and caused major damage in Jagat market as well. There are also fears that some houses have been swept away.
Residents of Jagat, Sallery, Sirdibas, Khorlabesi, Machha Khola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat along the riverbank have been asked to move to safe locations via loudspeaker announcements and phone calls. The government has urged residents of the riverside areas from Sirdibas to Arughat to remain alert.
