Women with complicated deliveries airlifted from Jajarkot, Dolpa and Gorkha

A 17-year-old girl from Kushe Rural Municipality-2 in Jajarkot was flown to Surkhet by Nepal Army helicopter after she developed complications during delivery. She was evacuated under the aerial rescue programme run by the Ministry of Women, Children, Senior Citizens, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security for pregnant and postpartum women. The programme operates under the National Women Empowerment Project.
The ministry runs the programme with the aim of getting women at risk due to difficult terrain, limited services at local health facilities, and delays, to specialist care in time.
Similarly, a 28-year-old woman from Namdo in Shey Phoksundo Rural Municipality-4, Dolpa, was also airlifted on Monday and brought to Surkhet. Her condition had become complicated after the placenta became stuck during pregnancy.
A 21-year-old pregnant woman from Uhiya, Dharche Rural Municipality-3, Gorkha, was flown by the Nepal Red Cross via helicopter to the Provincial Hospital in Gorkha district headquarters. She was rescued along with her husband and a relative after locals informed a Red Cross team that had gone to distribute relief.
The same team had also rescued two shepherds by helicopter on Asoj 31 after they were unable to return home. Bhimsenkaji Baniya, chairperson of the Red Cross Gorkha branch, said life for local residents has become difficult after floods on the Budhigandaki damaged homes, roads and electricity.
