Detained Suu Kyi receives gift from Britain's King Charles, first photo in two months released

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who is detained in Myanmar, received a gift package sent by Britain's King Charles III on Monday.
Myanmar authorities released the first photograph of Suu Kyi in two months, describing her as a "special female prisoner." According to a presidential spokesperson, the package contained two books on soil, a sealed envelope, and a confidential diplomatic letter from the king.
Suu Kyi was removed from power by a 2021 military coup and later placed under house arrest. Former military ruler Min Aung Hlaing was installed as civilian president last April, but Suu Kyi's party was not allowed to take part in the associated election.
Civil war has been intensifying in Myanmar since the coup. Britain has called Suu Kyi's detention "arbitrary" and has demanded her immediate and unconditional release.
