Two drivers made mandatory on long-distance night buses, overcharging to face action

Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police will strictly enforce, during the festival season, the rule requiring two drivers on long-distance public vehicles that run at night. Although this rule was already in effect, police say inspection and monitoring will now be intensified to ensure compliance. Vehicles found running with only one driver will face action.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Suresh Prasad Kafle, chief of the Valley Traffic Police Office, the step has been taken to prevent accidents caused by driver fatigue, since passenger numbers rise and buses run through the night during festivals. Police say having two drivers allows them to take turns, reducing fatigue on long journeys.

Police also said action will be taken against those charging passengers excess fares.
