Six bills tabled in House of Representatives, including one to rename a ministry

Six bills were tabled on behalf of the government at Monday's House of Representatives meeting.

Minister Sita Badi presented an amendment bill related to the renaming of a ministry. Under the Work Division Regulation 2083, the former Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens has been renamed. Minister Badi said the bill was needed afterward to bring uniformity across various acts. The ministry's new name adds further inclusive identities, including sexual and gender minorities. Work related to social security and non-contributory social security now falls under this ministry's jurisdiction, as does work related to the National Women Commission and the Dalit Commission, she informed the House.

During discussion, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Afsana Banu expressed full support for the bill, after which the House unanimously approved the motion to consider the bill.

Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta presented four bills. These relate to controlling the sale of products regarded as substitutes for mother's milk, safe motherhood, the safety of health workers, and the Ram Raja Prasad Singh Health Sciences Institute.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sovita Gautam presented, on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, a bill to revive certain provisions of Nepal's acts. The Ordinance on Removal from Public Office 2083 had been issued on Baishakh 19. Under Article 114 of the constitution, that ordinance has become inactive. According to Minister Gautam, this bill has been brought to fill the resulting legal vacuum. As no lawmaker gave notice of objection, the Speaker permitted the bill to be presented.
