Deuba faction's convention: youth and Gen Z mandatory at all levels

The faction led by outgoing Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding a parallel 15th general convention, for which youth representation has been made mandatory in all working committees from the ward level to the center.

The faction's central election committee has prepared an election directive. Under the directive, every working committee must include young members aged 18 to 28 as well as youths under 40. The directive also makes inclusion mandatory for women, Dalit women, laborers, professionals, industrialists and businesspeople, sexual and gender minorities, and backward regions.

According to the schedule, ward-level conventions will be held on Asoj 15. The central general convention will be held in Kathmandu from Mangsir 21 to 23. Former general secretary Shashank Koirala is the coordinator of the convention preparation committee, and coordinators have been appointed in 77 districts under him.

Central members and provincial presidents elected or nominated from the 14th convention will automatically be representatives at this convention. In the establishment faction led by Gagan Thapa, however, leaders must come elected from the ward level itself.

In the Deuba faction, a candidacy fee of Rs 30,000 will apply for the post of president. The establishment faction has set this fee at Rs 40,000. The fee for vice-president and general secretary has been set at Rs 25,000, for joint general secretary at Rs 20,000, and for central member at Rs 10,000. The candidacy fee for ward president, however, is Rs 250. The establishment faction is set to begin its own 15th general convention from Asoj 16.
