Congress regional conventions held today in most constituencies, schedule shifted in some rain-hit areas

As part of the Nepali Congress general convention process, regional conventions are being held today in most federal and provincial constituencies across the country. Because of the heavy rainfall of the past two days and forecasts of more rain, the party's Central Election Committee has given constituencies the option of completing the conventions by Asoj 13 as convenient.

Constituencies in some hill districts where roads have been blocked have accordingly revised their schedules to hold conventions on Sunday and Monday. Committee member secretary Raju Katuwal said conventions will be completed today in most places since the weather has improved.

The regional conventions have also been pushed back to Asoj 13 in some districts, including in Madhesh Province, because ward-level conventions there finished late. Each federal constituency will select 33 general convention representatives and 12 general committee members. The regional working committee will elect one chairperson, one secretary and two deputy secretaries, one of whom must be a woman.

The provincial assembly regional convention will elect a provincial working committee and provincial representatives on an inclusive basis. This time, municipal chairpersons and provincial assembly regional chairpersons will also serve as general convention representatives. The series that began with ward conventions on Asoj 3 has already completed ward- and municipal-level conventions. Katuwal said that if the regional conventions are delayed, the general convention may need to be inaugurated on Asoj 18.
