PM Shah to return home today after UN General Assembly, will brief press at airport

Prime Minister Balendra Shah is returning home today after taking part in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his return is scheduled for Saturday, Asoj 10.

Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, officiating secretary at the ministry, will hold a press briefing at 3:45 pm today in the media room of the VIP lounge at Tribhuvan International Airport. The ministry said the briefing will cover his participation in the General Assembly, bilateral meetings and the achievements of the visit. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has asked journalists to be present at the briefing venue at least half an hour in advance.

PM Shah had departed for the United States on Tuesday evening. In his address to the General Assembly, he cited the recent Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood as an example of the crisis caused by climate change, saying countries like Nepal, which have contributed little to the climate crisis, are paying a heavy price. Noting that risks of melting glaciers, landslides and floods extend from Nepal to India and China, he proposed joint cooperation led by the three countries.

He said climate justice is not limited to financial support alone but also involves distributive and procedural justice. During his stay in New York, he held meetings with representatives of various countries and the international community.
