Narayani river nears danger level, all 36 gates of Gandak Barrage opened

Continuous rain since Thursday has caused the Narayani river to cross the warning level. According to the Narayani Basin Office, Chitwan, the water level in the river has reached 8.30 meters.

According to the hydrological station at Devghat, the river's water level had reached 8.98 meters as measured at 3pm on Saturday. As the flood in the Narayani river, which flows through Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East), approached the danger level, all 36 gates of the Gandak Barrage were opened.

After the river's flow increased, floodwater entered a resort in the Amaltari area of Kawasoti Municipality-17 at around 12:30pm on Saturday. Security personnel rescued people from the site.

Dozens of houses have been submerged in Susta. Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Deepak Raj Nepal, said residents affected by the flooding have been moved to safe locations.
