National Defense University and Diploma Engineering Council bills tabled in House of Representatives

At Tuesday's meeting of the House of Representatives, the 'National Defense University Bill, 2083' and the 'Diploma Engineering Council Bill, 2083' were tabled. Both bills were presented on behalf of Prime Minister Balen Shah.

Under the proposed bill, in which the Nepali Army will play the main role, the Prime Minister will serve as chancellor of the National Defense University, with the Defense Minister as pro-chancellor. The Chief of Army Staff will be an ex-officio member of the university's assembly.

The government has introduced the Diploma Engineering Council Bill with the aim of making the diploma engineering profession and business organized, scientific, high-quality, dignified and transparent.

At the same meeting, Ojaswi Sherchan, chairperson of the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, presented the committee's report on the 'National Forensic Science Laboratory (Establishment and Operation) Bill,' which originated in the National Assembly. The report was prepared after detailed discussions in the committee, an amendment process, and consultations with stakeholders.
