Cabinet decides to table civil service bill in parliament, accept US grant

The government has decided to table in the Federal Parliament a bill to amend and consolidate laws related to the federal civil service. Government spokesperson and Education Minister Sasmita Pokharel announced six key decisions of Tuesday afternoon's Council of Ministers meeting.

The meeting also decided to accept a grant assistance of $20.7 million from the US government for improving the country's health services. According to spokesperson Pokharel, the decision to accept the foreign grant assistance was made on a proposal from the Ministry of Finance.

The same meeting promoted two joint secretaries from the administration and technical services to the rank of secretary. Joint Secretary Abha Shrestha Karna from the administrative service and Dr. Jagdishwor Karmacharya from the engineering service have been promoted to secretary.

The civil service bill had been pending for a long time. The government is set to take the bill to parliament to make arrangements regarding the formation, operation and terms of service of the federal civil service.
