26 structures removed from Phirkhe Khola riverbed in Pokhara

Pokhara Metropolitan City has removed 26 structures built in the riverbed area, or natural flow area, of the Phirkhe Khola, which runs through the middle of the city.
In the latest phase of the campaign, which began on Asoj 15, 12 permanent and 14 temporary structures have been removed so far, according to Mayor Dhanaraj Acharya.
The campaign to clear the riverbed area had started earlier, in Jestha, and property owners were given a final chance to remove their structures themselves. Although individuals and organisations verbally agreed to remove them, they did not comply, so the metropolis resumed the removal work. Structures that were still not cleared during that period are now being removed gradually.
Mayor Acharya said the campaign will be brought to completion to protect the natural flow area and for orderly urban development. He said protecting the riverbed area is linked to Pokhara's long-term interests.
