Very heavy rain likely in Gandaki, Lumbini today; some improvement in west tomorrow

According to the forecast issued by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology on Saturday evening, today, Sunday, most parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces will be cloudy. The Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati will see ordinary cloud cover, while the Tarai areas of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati will be partly cloudy.

According to the department, the effects of the monsoon wind, westerly wind and a well-marked low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh, India, are being felt across the country. The monsoon trough lies in its normal position in the west and slightly south of its normal position in the east.

There is a possibility of heavy rain at a few places in Sudurpashchim and at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali. Many places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpashchim may receive moderate rain or snow with lightning, while only a few places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati may see such rain.

Rain with thunder is also forecast at many places in the Tarai of Sudurpashchim. The department said a few places in the Tarai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim may experience strong winds.

For Saturday, the department had forecast very heavy rain at one or two places in Gandaki and Lumbini.
