Chitwan goat and buffalo trade expected to exceed Rs 300 million this Dashain

The goat and buffalo trade in Chitwan is estimated to exceed Rs 300 million this year during the Bada Dashain festival, according to local traders.
With the start of Dashain, trade in goats, buffaloes and meat has risen significantly in the district. Traders say the demand for meat increases during Dashain, which has driven up the buying and selling of goats and buffaloes in the market.
There is a tradition of sacrificing goats, male goats, buffaloes, pigs and chickens during Bada Dashain. As a result, the consumption of livestock and meat is much higher during this festival compared to other times of the year.
As the main days of Dashain approach, traders say there has been increased activity of buyers purchasing goats and buffaloes in the district's markets.
