Tradition of plastering homes with red mud and limewash fading in Lamjung

The tradition of plastering homes with red mud and limewash before Dashain has nearly disappeared in the villages of Lamjung. Now, only in a few places can houses plastered with mud or limewash still be found.
In the past, as soon as Dashain approached, villagers would be busy fetching mud, plastering walls, painting doors and windows, and cleaning paths. Villagers used to bring mud together and help each other plaster their homes, which gave the village a colorful and lively atmosphere.
In recent years, as more houses have been plastered with cement and painted with market paints, this tradition has gradually weakened. Locals say the main reasons are modern house construction, the use of cement, attraction toward market paints, and migration.
Along with this tradition, the old festive buzz that used to accompany the arrival of Dashain in villages has also been declining.
